Veo 3 in Google Vids: generate short videos with audio

17 June 2025| Mariusz Wilczek

The continuous development of AI-generated video is stirring up a lot of excitement. Clips created from prompts are sometimes incredibly difficult to distinguish from human-recorded videos.

Now, creating short-form videos is becoming even more accessible. Google, within its Google Vids tool, is making its latest Veo 3 model available, which allows for high-quality, 8-second videos with sound.

What’s new in Google Veo 3?

Google continues to develop its video generation tool. Google introduced the Veo 1 model in May 2024, which marked the beginning of an era of easy short clip creation. Veo 2, in turn, brought significant improvements in realism and prompt adherence. Now, just over a year after the first widely available version, we have Veo 3, which makes generated video difficult to distinguish from human-created content. This is a huge step forward in the development of this technology.

Veo 3 expands the video creation capabilities of previous models by adding:

  • Realistic Audio: This is the biggest new feature. Unlike previous versions, which only generated video, Veo 3 allows for the creation of video clips that include high-quality, natively generated sound. This covers realistic sound effects, ambient sounds, and even synchronized dialogue, eliminating the need for separate audio integration.
  • Higher Video Quality: Veo 3 delivers a leap in quality for generated 8-second videos. The visuals feature greater realism, better reproduction of real-world physics, refined details, lighting, and depth of field, bringing the generated content closer to actual recordings.
  • Improved Prompt Understanding and Consistency: Veo 3 better interprets complex prompts, resulting in more precise and consistent outcomes, especially regarding maintaining character and element continuity across successive scenes.
  • Seamless Integration: Generation remains intuitive and fully integrated with the Google Vids editor, ensuring ease of use.

How to generate videos with Veo 3:

  1. Open Google Vids.
  2. Navigate to the “Generate video” icon in the right sidebar of the Vids editor.
  3. Select Veo 3.
  4. Type in your prompt, describing the desired video and audio, then click “Create.”
  5. A preview will appear, and selecting “Insert” will add the generated content directly into your Vid.

What is Google Vids?

Google Vids is a video creation and editing application integrated within Google Workspace, designed to make videos, even without prior video editing experience.

It was initially announced on April 9, 2024. It’s still a relatively new tool and not yet widely known by the general public.

It leverages Google’s Gemini AI to help users quickly generate video content from text prompts, offering features like AI-assisted scripting, voiceovers, and the ability to incorporate stock media or your own assets, all within collaborative environment similar to Google Docs or Slides.

Practical applications:

Here are a few scenarios showcasing how Veo 3 can be practically applied to generate engaging video content:

Internal communications & onboarding

Instead of a standard email, you can quickly produce a welcoming video for new employees. This could involve a brief clip of a team leader greeting them and outlining the initial onboarding procedures.

Educational content & explainers

Rather than relying solely on static slides, you can easily create quick explainer videos for complex topics. Imagine generating a short, animated clip illustrating a scientific concept or a concise demonstration of a software feature, complete with a clear narration.

Marketing & Social Media Snippets

You can rapidly generate dynamic content for campaigns, like a compelling 8-second clip promoting a special offer with an engaging voiceover.

Key technical details:

  • Generated videos are 8 seconds long.
  • Resolution is 720p at 24 frames per second.
  • All videos are in landscape 16:9 aspect ratio.
  • Users have the option to mute the generated video’s audio if preferred.

Availability and rollout:

According to Google’s announcement, Veo 3 began a gradual rollout to rapid release and scheduled release domains starting on June 9, 2025, with full feature visibility expected within 15 days. This means the feature is actively becoming available to users now.

This feature is accessible for a wide range of Google Workspace editions, including:

  • Business Starter, Standard and Plus;
  • Enterprise Starter, Standard and Plus;
  • Essentials, Enterprise Essentials and Enterprise Essentials Plus;
  • Nonprofits;
  • Google AI Pro and Ultra;

And customers with:

  • Gemini Business,
  • Gemini Enterprise,
  • Gemini Education,
  • Gemini Education Premium add-on.

While Google Vids is available in local languages, the AI features like “Help me create” and the read-along teleprompter are currently English-only.
