One of the most significant advantages of cloud services is that updates and news become available to all users regularly, and each month we hear about many valuable changes. If you are working in the cloud, you do not need to install the updated version every year, as in traditional software solutions. Instead, you can smoothly get used to changes that are implemented gradually. We guarantee that getting used to the latest Google Meet update won’t be a problem.

What is Google Meet ?

Google Meet is an application that is included in all Google Workspace editions. It enables conversations, conferences and video streaming over the internet – but that’s not all. Google has recently started to develop the functions of this communicator intensively. Recently, we wrote that the possibility to join a conference over the phone via a traditional telephone network became available to all Google Workspace users.

What’s new in Google Meet?

Google has recently announced that it was increasing the maximum number of video conferences participants.

The benefits of the change are available to everyone because the limit was increased in each Google Workspace package. Until October 2019, 100 people in Google Workspace (G Suite) Enterprise, 50 in Business, and 25 in the Basic version could participate in Google Meet video calls. Later, the maximum limit was increased to 250. Now Google decided to double this number in the face of the increased popularity of remote work.

Higher participant limits for Google Meet video conferencing

From November 2021, Google Workspace Business Plus, Education Plus and Enterprise clients can organize meetings for up to 500 participants.

150 people can simultaneously participate in Google Workspace Business Standard video calls, while the limit for Google Workspace Business Starter is 100 participants.

Administrators do not have to approve of this change in the console – limits are increased for everyone by default.

To learn more about these updates check our monthly summary from November 2021.

What if you need to reach an even larger group?

The limits mentioned above apply to the number of conference users who connect by any means (via the Internet or phone) and can actively participate in the conversation. Google Meet can also be used for streaming discussions, conferences, webinars, or training within the company domain. In this case, there is an entirely different limit – up to 100,000 people can simultaneously receive your live stream. Your business has to use the Enterprise edition of the service to access live streaming in the domain.
