Selsey is one of the leading eCommerce companies, growing by 130% year-on-year since 2013. It specialises in online sales of furniture and interior design products. With over 15,000 products available 24/7, the brand offers a wide range of options at affordable prices, giving its customers the confidence to make the right choice. The company operates in over 10 European markets, including the UK, Germany, France, Poland, and Italy.
The main challenge
In its early years, the company employed just a few people. Selsey’s employees needed modern mail, file storage space and a set of office applications that could be implemented with little time and resources.
We needed an email solution with a short "go to live" that would allow us to quickly deploy corporate email and share files without spending extra money on licences and expensive infrastructure. By choosing Google Workspace, we had all of this in a package.
Solution to the problem
The implementation of Gmail and Google applications took a short time and proved to be a hit. Since then, the Selsey team has grown by 200 people, and the Google Workspace suite has grown with the company. The cloud infrastructure guarantees painless scaling of services on two levels – horizontally, by increasing the number of user accounts, and vertically, by upgrading to an edition that provides more features and file space.
Results
Google Workspace has enabled Selsey employees to overcome daily challenges faster by harnessing the full potential of every application. They haven’t stopped at just using email and web-based office programs – they’ve also moved all their communication to Google Chat and Meet and are benefiting from the progressive integration between all the tools in the Google ecosystem.
Remote work without obstacles
In 2020, a heightened sanitation regime forced many organisations to move to home offices – Selsey was one company that wasn’t harmed at all by the change. Working in the Google Cloud environment is equally comfortable in the confines of an office, in the living room of your own home, or when travelling. A laptop and internet are all you need to connect with colleagues and access company files. Selsey employees see all the advantages of working online, so they plan to work in a hybrid model once the pandemic is over.
Our employees love the fact that Google apps are accessible from anywhere in the world as soon as they log into their accounts, thanks to a simple menu for selecting apps. They also make it easy to communicate, organise meetings, do day-to-day work in documents and spreadsheets, as well as store and share data with colleagues.
Integrated environment for cooperation
All Google applications are available in a convenient menu, saving employees time switching between tools. The straightforward interface makes it easy for newcomers to quickly adapt to the collaborative rhythm of Selsey, even if they are trained remotely.
Google is constantly deepening the integrations of its applications – this feature of the Google Workspace suite helps the Selsey team communicate daily. Any written conversation in Google Chat can be continued in a video conferencing room in Google Meet with a single click, making remote internal communication much easier. The vast majority of Meet and Chat features are also available in Gmail – and email is a vital channel for official communication with clients, contractors and colleagues.
Data-driven decisions
Selsey makes heavy use of Google Sheets in every area of the company’s operation. Many files incorporate advanced formulas and automation using Apps Script. Google Sheets allows both simple and advanced tools to be created quickly.
We sell our products in many markets and cooperate with foreign marketplace platforms. The dynamics of our business require rapid implementation of new tools and integrations. The capabilities of Google Sheets, in combination with Apps Script, for example, allow us to very quickly implement the integration of order picking from new sales channels via CSV before preparing a complete integration in the ERP system, which is usually time-consuming.
The Selsey team measures key performance indicators in Google Data Studio. This application allows them to visualise data using drag&drop tools to effortlessly turn raw information into dynamic reports that everyone can understand.
